Curator – Lakes Aquarium, Cumbria

The Lakes Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Curator to join the team.

Firmly established as one of the Lake District’s most popular visitor attractions, The Lakes Aquarium is home to a diverse range of creatures – from catfish and otters, to starfish and ducks.

Leading a small team, the Curator is responsible for the development, production and maintenance of all displays, providing the highest standards of animal welfare and husbandry at all times. This includes ensuring all zoo licence regulations and BIAZA guidelines are adhered to and that related administration duties are fulfilled.

The role also includes responsibility for supervising the development and implementation of the attraction’s educational offering – ensuring that all visitors receive an inspiring, informative and fun experience.

The Curator is also responsible for overseeing general site maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have several years experience of working with a wide variety of creatures and systems as well as staff supervision. A proven track record in public aquaria is desirable along with an organised, structured approach and can-do outlook. Relevant qualifications and project management experience are an advantage.

A salary of £23,000 is offered, along with a 15% performance related bonus, 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), company pension scheme and life assurance.

The position includes on-call responsibilities on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank holiday working.

Commercial Manager – Lakes Aquarium, Cumbria

The Lakes Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Commercial Manager to join our team on a permanent, full time basis.

Firmly established as one of the Lake District’s most popular visitor attractions, The Lakes Aquarium is home to a diverse range of creatures – from catfish and otters, to harvest mice and ducks!

On site we have two busy catering and retail outlets, as well as an ice cream kiosk.

Leading a small/medium team of supervisors and seasonal staff, the Commercial Manager is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of all catering, retail and activities outlets, providing the highest standards of service to our customers. This includes ensuring any food safety regulations and government safety inspections are adhered to and fulfilled, as well as identifying any business opportunities in all secondary spend areas.

The role also includes being part of the duty management team, being responsible for the smooth operations of the whole site on a day to day basis, including attending any emergencies, first aid incidents and responding to customer queries.

The ideal candidate will have several years’ experience of working in a catering and retail background, with experience of staff supervision/management. A proven track record of an organised, structured approach to work is a must, with a can-do outlook. Relevant food safety qualifications and are an advantage.

Retail Supervisor – Lakes Aquarium, Cumbria

The Lakes Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Retail Supervisor to join our team on a permanent, full time basis.

Firmly established as one of the Lake District’s most popular visitor attractions, The Lakes Aquarium is home to a diverse range of creatures – from piranha and otters, to harvest mice and ducks!

On site we have two busy catering and retail outlets, as well as an ice cream kiosk.

Assisting the Commercial Manager, the Retail Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that a high quality, courteous, efficient and helpful service and offer are provided to our customers by all seasonal staff.

The Retail Supervisor will assist with managing the day-to-day operation of the retail department, by ensuring retail outlets are kept fully stocked and presentable, with necessary orders placed, deliveries received, recorded on stock systems and products priced accordingly.

They will help to Develop the commercial success of the retail department by implementing improvements to range, merchandising, presentation, stock control and value for money.

The role also includes being part of the duty management team, being responsible for the smooth operations of the whole site on a day to day basis, including attending any emergencies, first aid incidents and responding to customer queries.

The ideal candidate will have several years’ experience of working in a retail background, with experience of staff supervision. A proven track record of an organised, structured approach to work is a must, with a can-do outlook. Experience of using stock management systems would be an advantage.
